            Game with pastel.

for 7-9 y.old children

Art supplies:

- soft or oil pastel;

-  contraction paper of different colors if you have any other ideas. For the project: white, gray, yellow or orange,

- picture of Sunflowers by Van Gogh  

- white vase, sunflowers, gray table cloth. 

1. Introduction of the masterpiece "Sunflowers". Some information about the artist. 

2. Explain how to leave spots the color of the paper. On white paper do not color vase, on gray - do not color table cloth, on orange - color objects around flowers and add some details inside of each flower.

 

Coffee painting.

Art supplies:

- instant coffee dry;
- 50/50 instant coffe + water (just make coffe
 with  hot water and leave it to be cold enough for children safety)
- water to wash brushes;
- cloths or paper towel for brushes;
- flat brushes;
- palettes;
- watercolour paper.


1. Pour some liquid coffee in one bowl of a palette.  Let her/him to play with brush. Brush is dancing making different lines and marks.

2.  Show your child how you can use the brush as a spoon to put "paint" in other two bowls of the palette.

3. Than add more water to the left bowl and add more coffee to the right bowl. Try this three shades of coffee on a piece of paper. You can get light, medium and dark shade of coffee.

 Individual work of my young students

                             The lessons for my youngest students are divided  into parts. 

First, finger play.

Second, we practice with individual trays. 

Third, story or visual material.

Than, picture. 

3-4 years students exercise to develop their fine motor skills. 

Soft pastel drawing lesson : "The summer impressions"

The lesson is created  for 1 hour work , which is divided into stages :

- Welcome time ;

- Preparing of the workplace;

- The  sharing  of impressions, viewing of          visual material (pictures, short clips);

- Exercise in colouring, obtaining lines;

- Work on the picture ;

- Clean up time.

Art supplies:

1) paper for soft pastel (or any rough paper);

2) masking tape, which is easily removed            after the lesson;

3) clipboard  for drawing ;
4) a set of soft pastel  6-12 pcs.  We are going      to use blue, yellow, white, then you  can 
     add other colors.  You can use colored              chalk  instead of  soft pastel. They are              cheaper, but not so intense in color .

5) Q-tips ;
6) cloth or napkin to wipe the fingers;

7) pieces of paper, to practice skills.

                   

Visual material :

 holiday pictures (landscapes with the sky and water), paintings on the subject. Draw children's attention to the color of the sky , the color of the water , ask them what is the same,  what is different.  Discuss how artists depict the water and sky.

Exercises:

We work on  the various techniques of working with soft pastel :

- Hold a pencil - get a line ;

- Put  the pastel on the back side and  colour  large surface of the paper ;

- Carefully rub soft pastel on paper - lines turn into a smooth transition,

- Before you change the color - wipe your fingers.

The lesson :

1) Children  independently prepare the working  place: boxes of soft pastel,  cloth , clipboards, paper .  They protect  the edges of the future picture with masking tape.

2 ) Students start with the line of horizon.

3) Than we colour over the surface of the water and the sky blue , then rub the soft pastel on the paper.

4) We look at pictures of landscapes again and discuss how to show the waves on the water surface. Than we take pastel in blue color and add the blue lines. Before take another colour, we  wipe our fingers and add the white glare on the water , then draw a white clouds in the sky.

5 ) We add the "sand" in yellow on the bottom edge of the paper. Yellow should be  rubbed  very carefully. Use Q-tips for this. If all the same blue and yellow are  mixed offer to students use their creativity  to work on  this place. Someone can  add the grass , someone can draw  seaweed ...

6 ) At the end we remove the masking tape from the edges of the picture and  sign  the picture.
